If you are a musician looking to build your home studio from scratch, do not get overwhelmed by what you often see on television, where equipment in studios appear to be expensive, way outside your budget. You see, a music studio can function even with a basic set of items, and these are the following:
A digital recorder is part of the basic setup. You no longer need cassette tapes or floppy disks at this point, because even music studios have gone digital. You simply have to purchase audio software, called a digital work station, and install it on your computer and you can already record.
A mixer is an electronic device used for making modifications on the tone, pitch, level or dynamics or audio signals. It allows you control on every element of the stuff you record. If there is a centerpiece in your music studio, it would have to be your mixer.
Functioning to compress sounds, enhance quiet sections and flatten peaks, a compressor is also part of the basic setup. This is a useful tool, especially when mixing multiple tracks.
Lastly, you would need microphones in your music studio, not just one but at least two, since you’ll be using a good quality microphone for vocals and a cheaper dynamic one for drums.
