A great time to be alive!

All musicians! It’s a great time to be alive! You are now in control of your own music and in this world of increased technology you no longer need the likes of major record labels, radio stations, retailers and producers to handle your money and your music. There is nothing these days that you can’t do yourself to promote and to make your own dreams come true and become a professional musician. Everything can be managed yourself, from recording at home to distribution via the Internet. The money goes directly to you now so there is no large company to take massive chunks of your revenue and sales profits. Downloading on the Internet literally changed the music industry over night and things will never be as they were again. iTunes were revolutionary in the way that they made it legal to download music and everyone was instantly given so much more choice and at a very affordable cost. I can’t even remember the last time I knew of someone actually going out and buying a CD. Now musicians can have financial freedom but unfortunately have to put in the hard work themselves. You can still get yourself a manager to control everything but you decide what cuts that he/she receives. It takes just a small fee for musicians to have their CD on iTunes and this way they then receive 100 percent of the sales profits. If you told the likes of Jimi Hendrex and Kurt Cobain any of this technology would exist years ago, they probably wouldn’t have believed you! This is great for everyone and gives musicians every chance to make it themselves. This isn’t without hard work though of course and the dedication still has to be there, the rehearsals, the jamming, the gigs, organizing good venues, tours, promotional work, time spent on networking sites, creating face book and Twitter pages, and of course you have to be great at what you do! Hiring a good manager when you reach a certain level is a great idea as it will allow you to concentrate on your music and not have to worry about the sales, promotion and marketing sides of things. You will have to be earning enough to be able to support this extra cost and you will have to trust this manager implicitly to handle your business correctly.
