Distributing your music

The biggest problem when distributing your music in the way of CD distribution is that the actual distributors only ever want to work with labels. Not necessarily the large labels but a label even if they are only small. You can easily create your own label to be able to sell your CD’s to distributors but most musicians don’t want the hassle and would rather concentrate on creating their music. Years ago it was extremely difficult to distribute music but in this day and age it couldn’t be easier and there are so many different ways in which to do it. The way forward now is to sell your music via digital downloads and this is not only popular but there is no way that this is ever going to change. This is a much easier and faster way to please consumers and to get you heard and also earn a fair amount of money too. These days if you want a single or an album then you simply look it up on the Internet and within minutes it is downloaded and is yours to listen to as many times as you wish. You don’t have to wait for the shop to open and people can happily buy your music from all over the world, 24 hours a day. Producing CD’s is a very expensive business and to get the amount you would need pressed for distributors would cost a lot of money as well as the fact that it would take a long time to ensure that your CD was sold in every single store. Using the Internet of course is extremely low cost as on most music websites you pay a small one off charge and then you get to keep 100 percent of the revenue from all your sales. Internet downloads will only ever become more popular and many of the digital retailers are even selling album covers too. It is more than likely that within the next few years all retailers will eventually do this. It is also much cheaper for consumers to buy music online with music ranging in price from 2 dollars to 7 dollars and being able to get exactly what they are looking for with just a click of a button. I think if we look into the future by about a decade we will find that CD’s are almost obsolete. If you are producing CD’s for distributors then to make it worth your while money wise then it is best to release a full album rather than just a few songs which would mean going through the same process yet again when you have finally come up with the full album. Digital music can be released as individual songs or as a 5 song EP’s as well as albums and there would be no difference in the cost. Obviously you would get a lot more money from the sales of a digital album but to actually get it out there would cost far less than creating CD’s.
