Self promotion is extremely important for musicians and should be done regularly in between rehearsals, jamming sessions and gigs. For all the hours of dedication you put in you really must not make the mistake of forgetting to promote yourself; after all you are building up to perform! If you have no one to perform to at the end of all this practice and hard work then it kind of defeats the object. When you start to build a fan base it is important to get everyone’s email address. There are several ways that you can do this and the most popular and easiest way to do this is by adding a registration section on your website where your fans can fill in their details. If you don’t have a website you can ask that everyone on your Facebook or Myspace does the same in order to gather all the email addresses. Your fans are what will make you and without them and their support you would amount to nothing so it is good to keep a relationship with them. When you have gathered all the email addresses you can keep them on an excel spread sheet and steadily add to it as and when you have more addresses. You then use this to send out group emails to all your fans. You can keep them up to date with any new music and set links to your website with the new downloadable MP3 and also let people know of any gigs that you have coming up. You can always offer tickets to your gigs with a percentage discount as they are your fans so if they show the print out at the venue then they will pay a lower rate. This not only is good for self promotion but is also great for thanking your fans and giving them a little something back for their ongoing support. Try and get their first name so that you can address them personally in your emails as this will have so much more of the personal touch. This will also build a two way relationship where they can reply to you and these fans may also have contacts which you may need in the future. They may know someone with a great venue or perhaps may wish to book you for a gig themselves.
