How to improve employment prospects as a musician

To make the very best of your talents and to increase your opportunities in the music business to enhance your employment prospects is to make sure that you are versatile. You are already amazing at what you do and you already have the technical ability it is simply a case of turning this towards the related fields that you need. If you only play an electric guitar for example; then why not try an acoustic guitar? This way you can increase your work prospects by being able to audition for acoustic sets in local pubs and bars. Try not to limit yourself to just one type of music, learn to play covers of the last 5 decades to be able to improve your chances of getting work. If you could then play covers on an acoustic guitar, you could then get paid work at hospitals or residential care homes. Another example is a bass player. The same can be said of them. Instead of limiting yourself to the electric bass, you could learn to use a bow and play similar instruments such as the upright acoustic bass and learn to play using effects pedals to change the sound of your music. If you are a piano player you could learn to play the keyboard and maybe get some session work or recording work under your belt which always pays well. So you can simply expand on the skills which you already have and become more versatile to open up the windows of opportunity. This business as you will already know is fiercely competitive and you have to have more than one string to your bow to make things work for you (please forgive the pun). If you can expand and become more versatile then this will increase your chances of doing what you love and actually getting paid to do so. That after all is the dream that everyone is chasing isn’t it? To actually receive an income for what you do best is possibly the most satisfying feeling in the world. I wish you luck in expanding upon your talent and opening new windows of opportunity. You are already fantastic so make sure you learn more and more.
