Vocal Training

Taking care of your voice when you are a musician is imperative to ensure a long and successful career. All musicians would have had some vocal training at some stage in their career and it is very important. A singer needs to be able to produce exactly the right sounds without straining their voice. Ongoing training and practice can deeply enhance the singing voice making the singer better and better. This is no different to someone playing any instrument in fact; the more you practice, the better you will be. All singers will have a warm up session before any performance. Breathing exercises are a must for all singers as this helps them to know when to take a breath between phases and also to be able to sustain a long note in just one breath. It is essential that vocal training and breathing exercises are practiced everyday to ensure that the singer will perform well every time. Even the professionals sometimes have problems with their voices being strained and even have to cancel their tours or pull out halfway through. It is hard on a singer’s voice to have to perform every night for hours for months on end. Posture is equally as important to singer’s voice as if the diaphragm and the lungs are crumpled due to bad posture then this will affect the voice. It is always good to have a good posture whether sitting or standing to be able to give your voice that extra bit of help that it will need to perform well. Confidence in yourself is also crucial to having a great singing voice as any hint of nerves in your singing can throw you off all over the place and this will really notice. Try to keep calm and your breathing exercises will also help with any nerves that you may have. Smoking is the worst thing that anyone can do for their voice and this will keep changing your voice throughout the years until you are just a fraction as good as you once were. You must protect your throat always and avoid people with colds and throat infections as this could stop you from singing for weeks on end. Always make sure you avoid really hot drinks as well as freezing cold drinks and stick to drinking water at room temperature.
